Amy Denty is the Director of Literacy for the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), where she leads the department's literacy efforts, including its work under the Georgia Early Literacy and Dyslexia Act.
A teacher at heart, Denty has taught various subjects from Pre-K to 8th grade and was recognized as Georgia Teacher of the Year in 2000. She also received the Milken Educator Award and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching. As Wayne County’s Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, she championed the science of reading and structured literacy.
Denty holds degrees in middle school education, an interdisciplinary master’s in education and natural sciences, and a specialist’s degree in educational leadership. She is currently pursuing a doctorate focused on teacher retention in rural areas. She has served in various leadership roles, including past chair of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and president of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), always advocating for the teaching profession.
