English teacher Brittany Matsushino steps to the microphone to address the crowd gathered to celebrate her Milken Educator Award as Cienega High School Principal Nemer Hassey (left) and Milken Family Foundation Chairman and Co-Founder Lowell Milken look on. "You are the reason I became an educator," she tells the students. Then she adds a personal note: "You’re the reason I was able to meet my husband, so thank you for that." Matsushino's husband Jim is Cienega High School's band director; they met at the school and married two years ago.
