Art teacher and department chair Thomas Kelchner co-created and oversaw the Arts and Communications Small Learning Community initiative at Williamsport Area High School in Williamsport. This interdisciplinary program to infuse the visual and performing arts into the study of literature and history was further expanded through Mr. Kelchner's experience with technology-integrated instruction. His students produced several multi-media projects, including one on the history of Little League baseball. Mr. Kelchner lead the district's partnership with the Kennedy Center Partners in Education Program, helping general classroom teachers incorporate the visual and performing arts into their curricula. Whether writing the state framework for learning standards-integrated visual arts curricula, or conducting workshops of arts-integrated lesson planning and learning, Mr. Kelchner gave students and teachers alike the tools for creative engagement.
