Sonja Brantley Boone is a certified reading teacher and tutor at Kreole Elementary School in Moss Point. Previously, as a second-grade teacher, Boone enhanced educational opportunities for students by collaborating with other teachers, parents and the community. She raised funds within the community for a series of field trips throughout Mississippi, invited community members to read multicultural works to her students, and established a partnership with a local business to display student work. Boone develops curriculum and promotes good teaching practices through her work on several textbook adoption committees, the district's Language Arts Support Team, and the state's grade-level test development team. She is a member of the South Mississippi Writing Project and coordinates Kreole's Reading Fair.
