Ronald Carter, music teacher at East St. Louis Lincoln High School, has achieved great success with the jazz band program he established 13 years ago. Through this now internationally renowned program , Mr. Carter's students have earned individual and group honors in local, regional, national and international competitions. The band has stimulated unprecedented parent and community involvement; a jazz band parents' group and community booster group support the young musicians so they can travel and perform at such events as the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, where Mr. Carter was selected Outstanding Jazz Director/Educator. He has also been honored twice with Downbeat Magazine's Music Fest Award.
