Biographical Information

Roberta Robinson teaches family and consumer science at High School III in Cheyenne. In an effort to help boost the self-esteem of high-risk students, Mrs. Robinson has developed a number of programs to involve them in community service. "Very often, these same students are on the receiving end of the service, and it seems appropriate that they be involved in the giving as well," says Mrs. Robinson. Students have made quilts for a number of organizations, including The Crisis Pregnancy Center, Children's Hospital and a national project for infants with AIDS. Nursing homes and the Veterans Administration Hospital have all benefited from the small homemade gifts and the many favors the students have offered. Mrs. Robinson also had her Family Living Class adopt a kindergarten class and develop a metrics fair for that same age group.
