Randy Steinheimer recognizes that a classroom environment can influence his students' interest in learning. Accordingly, every wall of his fourth grade classroom at J.H. Freeman Elementary School in Aurora is decorated with examples of student work, goals and achievements. To promote responsibility and discipline, his students help establish classroom rules and are part of designated "communities." Mr. Steinheimer's skills and 12 years of classroom experience have brought him widespread recognition. As Freeman's principal observes, "Randy has that unknown element called the 'art of teaching.'"
