Biographical Information

Peggy Gant teaches honors and advanced biology at Sparks High School in Washoe County School District. Though Ms. Gant's honors classes are for ninth grade students new to demands of high school science, the majority of these students go on to take Ms. Gant's advanced biology class as well. Seen as an unofficial science resource, Ms. Gant is frequently consulted by former students and faculty members on matters pertaining to her field. She is also active in helping students compete in regional and national science contests. "I am an educator, " says Ms. Gant, "because I believe very strongly that learning and problem solving are life-long processes, and I hope to instill this thirst for knowledge in my students, for it is their best hope for a successful future." Ms. Gant is a three-time state finalist for the Presidential Excellence Award for Science Teaching and in 1992 was included in "Who's Who of American Teachers."
