Paula Cox, fifth-grade teacher at Briarwood Middle School in Camden, is a specialist in writing instruction. Team-teaching in an inclusionary classroom with a regular education teacher and a special education teacher, Mrs. Cox engages her students in a daily writing workshop in which they write about self-generated topics of importance to them. She co-founded WINGS, an after-school reading and writing club in which students voluntarily participate in literacy enrichment activities. She also began a program of family reading nights in which parents and children engage in reading and test-taking activities together. She is associate director of the West Tennessee Writing Project and coordinates an annual literacy workshop for West Tennessee educators. A National Board Certified teacher, Mrs. Cox serves on the State Board of Education's Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Certification.
