Patricia Jarvis teaches fourth grade at Bernon Heights Elementary School in Woonsocket. During her twenty-three years in education, Ms. Jarvis has sat on numerous curriculum development committees helping to create a curriculum for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade in the disciplines of social studies, mathematics, science, and business education. Since 1991, Ms. Jarvis has served as Rhode Island's state coordinator for the National Geography Bee sponsored by the National Geographic Society. She has also been actively involved for nine years with the Law-Related Education Program as a presenter of workshops for teachers and as a creator of in-class programs for students. "Teaching gives me the opportunity to make a difference. And because I want to be a role model for my students," she says, "I have high standards for myself which I try to live up to."
