Biographical Information

Before Norma's retirement in 2015, she was the UCLA Writing Project Associate Director at the University of California in Los Angeles, CA. 

At the time of Award, Norma Mota-Altman teaches sixth grade at Emery Park Elementary school and extends herself beyond the classroom to reach all students, especially those with special needs. Ms. Mota-Altman is admired for her creativity in cultivating a love of learning in her students and formulating an atmosphere which fosters the confidence students need to succeed. Utilizing a variety of instructional strategies, Ms. Mota-Altman oversees "The Thinkers's Club," a before-school program for at-risk students in grades four through six. She provides opportunities for these students to achieve goals and increase their self-esteem in addition to using software for building critical thinking skills
