Principal
Wynnton Elementary School

Biographical Information

Nancy Nail Housand was a teacher of the moderately mentally handicapped at Wynnton Elementary School. Her program was a replication site for the Child Development and Retardation Center at the University of Washington in Seattle, and reports on her students' activities and progress were published annually to help teachers nationwide. Because of her students' special needs, Ms. Housand decided to bring networking into the teacher-parent relationship, to urge parents to turn to the school for information and support. Recognizing that many of the parents were unable to afford current publications, videotapes and educational toys, she applied for and won a Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Award to set up a parent Resource Library.
