A strong advocate for early childhood education, kindergarten teacher Kristina Crabtree played an instrumental role in piloting her district's pre-kindergarten program for four-year-olds at Jefferson Elementary School in Norman. Her study of the program showed that it gave students a clear advantage over those who did not go through the program. Miss Crabtree now teaches extended-day kindergarten and has been named head teacher by the Jefferson Elementary faculty three years in a row. She is a frequent presenter on literacy development at local, regional, state and national conventions, and instructors at the University of Oklahoma's Early Childhood program frequently ask to place their best candidates in her classroom. Miss Crabtree has worked with her primary team to acquire several grants, and participates with them each summer in an independent book study.
