Biographical Information

Kenneth Dressler, an educator for 24 years, teaches third-graders at Gardnerville Elementary School in Gardnerville. Mr. Dressler is a longtime advocate of cooperative learning groups and cross-age tutoring, strategies that have "always been a part of my classroom." As coordinator of his school's Fine Arts Program, a yearly week-long program that includes dramatic productions, artist visits and presentations, dance and music recitals and a student art exhibit, Mr. Dressler sought to fill an important gap in the school's art curriculum. He is also the initiator of his school's Senior Volunteer program, an after-school program that allows students to benefit from the companionship and guidance of senior community members. Mr. Dressler spent 1989 as a Department of Defense teacher in Madrid, Spain; the experience provided a rich and ongoing opportunity for the exchange of educational ideas and methods.
