Students in Katherine Grzesiak's fifth-grade class at Eastlawn Elementary School in Midland benefit from her well-integrated curriculum. Mrs. Grzesiak's "Colonial Newspapers" unit combines social studies, language arts, technology and art to teach students about America's pre-Revolutionary colonial society. She has piloted an integrated math/science curriculum at her school, based on the National Science Foundation-funded Trailblazers project. As the school's building technology instructional leader, she helps other teachers incorporate technology into their existing lessons and is a co-principal investigator for Eastlawn's National Science Foundation Systemic Initiative Project. For the past three years, Mrs. Grzesiak has participated in PBS's "Mathline program," which combines video and online technology to help teachers develop an effective math curriculum.
