Karen Campbell Wild's students at Sharp Creek Elementary School in Carrollton have shown gains in academics, socialization, organization and problem-solving. As a looping teacher, Mrs. Wild follows her fourth graders to fifth grade; and though parents may choose to send their children to a different fifth-grade teacher, none do. She conducts a Readers and Writers Workshop in which students are assessed, supported, guided and challenged in language arts; they take part in guided reading/writing sessions, individual conferences, response journals, independent reading as well as writing, modeled mini-lessons, book clubs, and fluency improvement sessions. Mrs. Wild serves on the Teacher Induction Program (TIP) Committee, helping new teachers achieve a smooth transition into the Carrollton County's philosophy of education. She has presented at the International Reading Association and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Conferences.
