Judy Trumble's third graders at Thomas Edison Primary Center have "We sink or swim together" as their class motto, an appropriate sentiment for the students of a pioneer in cooperative learning techniques. Through Ms. Trumble's Leadership, Cooperative Learning and whole-language instruction are becoming standard practices in the district's elementary schools. She introduced a student writing program in her district years before such programs became an integral part of the curriculum. In addition to her duties at Edison, Ms. Trumble is an education instructor at a nearby university. She has presented numerous workshops and in-service programs on cooperative learning at local, state and national levels.
