James Simmons is superintendent of the Conway Public Schools. Previously, he served as principal of Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home. As a former principal of Nelson Wilks Elementary School in Mountain Home, Simmons motivated students through programs such as his Ambassador Program, through which students who exhibited good citizenship were chosen to welcome visitors and new students to the school. Wilks also established a computer laboratory to provide course work for parents and local residents through adult education courses. He was named 1990 Arkansas Principal of the Year, and was honored by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals as a 1991 National Distinguished Principal.
