Years ago, Graciela De Anda graduated from Edinburg High School in Edinburg. She is now an English/Humanities teacher and department chair at the district's newest school, Economedes High School. Using a variety of teaching strategies aimed at stimulating higher-order thinking skills-writing for and editing a literary magazine, authoring plays, and practicing public speaking-Ms. De Anda is able to reach each of her students, whether a recent arrival from Mexico or a college-bound gifted student. As the sponsor of the National Honor Society and a literary criticism group, she develops her students' leadership skills while promoting their mastery of English. Ms. De Anda is a leader at the school and district levels, serving on numerous curriculum and school improvement committees.
