Teacher Geri McCarthy's integrated approach to social studies education stimulates and engages her students at Barrington High School in Barrington. Mrs. McCarthy's U.S. History students have made history come alive by producing and performing a series of plays she has written depicting events such as Columbus's discovery of the New World. She has turned her students into world geography experts and award-winning mystery writers by enrolling them in Delta Airlines' "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" contest. Students in Mrs. McCarthy's class use technology to deliver more effective presentations and have even demonstrated and presented technology-based learning activities at School Board and PTO meetings.
