Elizabeth Asteriadis teaches physical education at Lois Allen Elementary School in Washoe County School District. Her program is developmentally based, so that students build on their achievements to gain confidence and competence. Ms. Asteriadis also coordinates schoolwide activities designed to promote lifelong fitness, such as "Jog-a-thons," "Jump-a-thons," and field days. In 1989, Ms. Asteriadis was named Nevada Elementary Educator of the Year and Washoe County Physical Education Teacher of the Year, and in 1990 she received the American Heart Association's Outstanding Service Award for Promoting the Advancement of Health and Fitness Programs. She served as the Physical Best Coordinator from 1989 to 1991 and received the Washoe County Teachers' Association Distinguished Service Award in 1991.
