Biographical Information

Rickard Gannon, principal of Gorton Junior High School in Warwick, is a pioneer in his city's use of computer telecommunications for education. In 1992, Dr. Gannon was the first educator in Warwick to use the Internet in a classroom. He helped Gorton become one of the first schools in the country to have high-speed access to the Internet. Dr. Gannon has addressed the problem of social promotion/retention with Team Success, a series of support mechanisms for students who have been retained, that includes a performance contract, mentoring and tutoring. He is a past president of the Rhode Island Association of School Principals and served on the board of the Center for School Leadership.
