Biographical Information

Kenneth Sakatani, Ph.D., taught art and technology to the sixth through eighth grade students of Bayside Middle School in San Mateo. Known for his expertise in both visual arts and technology, he combined this knowledge in his classes at Bayside Middle School. Dr. Sakatani was also very involved in teacher training, curriculum development, program evaluation, and grant writings; but the major focus of his professional life was in his classroom, where he encouraged children to explore new ideas and challenged them to be the best they could be. Dr. Sakatani opened doors for ethnically diverse students by introducing them to career options in technology and the arts. "Children come to know and understand about art through their sensory intelligence," Dr. Sakatani says. "Developing their visual intelligence and creativity in art is what I find most rewarding in teaching." Dr. Sakatani retired in 2026.
