Dan Russell, principal at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, not only believes in the "idealism of youth," he draws upon it to keep his own dreams fresh. Highly goal-oriented himself, Mr. Russell instills this philosophy in the students of Science Hill High School and has led many of his students to state and national prominence in both academics and athletics. In 1990, Science Hill was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National School of Excellence. Mr. Russell also introduced the Provide Remediation and Enrichment Program to address the needs of ninth-grade students who are at risk. As a principal, Mr. Russell feels his greatest reward is the privilege of being part of the lives of his students and helping to equip young people to improve their world.
