Biographical Information

In 1996, media specialist Deborah Blizard opened a state-of-the-art media center and library at Jacksonville Commons Elementary School in Jacksonville. Since then she has transformed the school's students and staff into independent researchers and creative users of a vast array of new learning tools. Mrs. Blizard installs and maintains all of the school's hardware and software, provides technology training for students and staff, created the school website and publishes a monthly newsletter for parents and community members. Mrs. Blizard is the building leadership chairperson for the school's improvement plan and holds a seat on the county's Staff Development Advisory Council.

In 2006, Mrs. Blizard became the technology facilitator for five Onslow County Schools teaching technology software to teachers and principals including interactive whiteboards, MS office and other online programs. Mrs. Blizard was asked to open her second library at the new Stateside Elementary in 2009 continuing to teach technology to the newly appointed staff and provide staff development to all Onslow county's teachers.
