Charlotte Meade is a language arts teacher at Monongah Middle School in Marion County. By tapping into every student's strengths, she seeks to create a community of learning in each of her classes. In trying to meet the needs of every student in a heterogeneous setting, Ms. Meade prefers to develop her own teaching materials and testing instruments, often altering the length and style of evaluations to meet individual student needs. The varied learning styles of all students are thus respected and valued. Ms. Meade is active in numerous professional and civic organizations, including the NAACP. A published poet and writer-arranger of music, she has taken part in the "Writers of Color" program at Fairmont State College and is a fellow in the West Virginia Writing Project.
