To ensure that he remains visible and accessible to students, staff and parents at Dalton High School in Dalton, principal Mike Stanton keeps a desk in the school hallway and makes an appearance at every school event. A visionary leader with the ability to build consensus among the school's diverse student population, Mr. Stanton has been instrumental in securing challenging academic programs for his students, including the International Baccalaureate program. He developed a Parent-Teacher-Student Administration Council that provides ideas for school improvement while fostering communication among its members' groups. Named Principal of the Year in 1996 by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals, Mr. Stanton has also served as the organization's president.
