Teacher Amy Rogers uses cooperative learning, advanced technology, and engaging science experiments to teach fourth and fifth-grade gifted students (EXCEL) at Purvis Upper Elementary School in Purvis, MS. An advanced placement English teacher for 8 years before transitioning to elementary gifted, Mrs. Rogers facilitated ACT reviews and organized two European excursions for AP English students. Mrs. Rogers serves on numerous policy-making committees in the Lamar County School District. She is a three-time recipient of the Star Teacher Award. Amy Rogers currently serves as the secretary for the Mississippi Staff Development Council (MSDC). She received the 2009 Best Buy Teach Award, using the $5,000 grant to incorporate advanced technology in the classroom. She was a recipient of the 2010 Hancock Bank Leo W. Seal Teacher Recognition Award, a fund of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
