Biographical Information

Dr. White is currently serving as the Chief Strategy, Innovation, and Community Engagement Officer with Norfolk Public Schools in Norfolk, Virginia. During the COVID 19 school closure, Dr. White worked collaboratively with the district’s leadership team, where they effectively implemented the Norfolk Public Schools Learning in Place plan due to COVID 19 school closure. Prior to becoming a Chief Officer,  Dr. White as the Executive Director of Elementary Schools, 20 years as an elementary principal, 2 years as an elementary assistant principal, and 15 years as an elementary teacher within Norfolk Public Schools.

Dr. Doreatha White is an award-winning educator that created and implemented G.A.P.P. (Grade Assessment and Planning Protocol) to significantly raised student achievement. She is the two times recipient of the National Title 1 Distinguished School Award, National Milken Educator Award, National School Change Award, Most Philosophical School in America Award, National Center for Urban School Transformation Award, Regent University Alumni of the Decade Award, National Association for Elementary Principals Mentor, Governor’s Excellent in Leadership Award, Virginia Lottery Education Award, and many more. 

In addition, Dr. White is a White House ConnectEd Apple Grant Recipient for her DAYMAC Program (Developing Amazing Young Minds through Apple ConnectED). Dr. White is known for aggressively reorganizing and transforming high poverty schools by implementing teams of Title I and resource teachers, boosting parental involvement through monthly "Standards of Learning Family Nights," and providing parents with remedial education strategies at regular "Chew and Chat" meetings and Parent Observation Days.

Dr. White was among the first classroom teachers in the state to effectively pilot IBM's Writing to Write Program, a computer-based reading / writing program. Dr. White served as an adjunct professor at Regent and Norfolk State Universities, as well as an Advisory Board Member for Hampton Roads Community Care.
