Robert Younker (MI '92)a war veteran and an educator of 30 years—died at his home in Westland, Michigan on May 18, 2015 at age 83.

A former electronics maintenance instructor in the Korean War, Robert taught electronics to students at Southfield High School in Southfield, Michigan, at the time he received the prestigious Milken Educator Award in 1992. In 1966, Robert started Swap and Shop, an annual electronics flea market that raised an average of $20,000 a year for scholarship funds and new equipment for the Southfield electronics program.

Robert served as a co-op coordinator, providing job placement assistance and career counseling for students of the school. He also spent each summer seeking out the latest developments in the electronics field to introduce advances to his students.

"The evidence of my professional worth is in the work I see my former students performing on submarines, with plants, in the defense department, becoming teachers and professors, and in every aspect of work and living," Robert once said.
