Aimee Kumura (HI ’94) passed away in April 2024, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. At the time of her Milken Award, Aimee was a resource teacher at Waialua Elementary School in Waialua. A believer that community involvement is essential to an educator's impact, she conducted parenting classes, participated in local politics and served on the Neighborhood Board. Aimee was responsible for implementing several programs at her school, including the Beginning Reading Program, Accelerated Reading Program and Micro-Community.
