As the new "teacher specialist" at Allendale-Fairfax Middle School in Allendale County, Yvette Barnes will apply her skills and experience as a master teacher to instruct both students and other teachers. Formerly an algebra and honors teacher and math department co-chair at Gregg Middle School in Dorchester County, Ms. Barnes challenges her students with a rigorous math curriculum that is relevant to real-world issues. She requires her students to teach new algebra concepts to their family members, which reinforces learning and parental involvement. While at Gregg, Ms. Barnes was also a member of the school management committee and a sponsor of the student council.
