Biographical Information

"As a Mexican-American, I have tried to be a role model for Hispanic and other minority students," says Victoria Fisher, principal of Rorimer Elementary School in La Puente. The school's motto, Yes I can. Si yo puedo, is reflected in the many programs implemented at the school under Mrs. Fisher's leadership. By means of performance-based assessment, a thematically organized curriculum, hands-on instruction, multi-age student grouping and instructionally integrated technology, Mrs. Fisher has helped introduce methods to her school that are significantly enhancing student learning. She has also participated in the establishment of several motivational and personal development workshops that focus on self-esteem, conflict resolution and parental education. In an effort to provide students with constructive after-school alternatives, she has made the Homework Club, the Odyssey of the Mind program, a Mariachi youth band and several athletic activities fixtures of the extended school day.
