From her base as a mathematics teacher at Ypsilanti High School, Valerie Mills has helped to develop numerous programs, workshops, partnerships and curricula throughout the state. "Math Unlimited" is a program she created to identify mathematically talented minority middle school students and encourage them to pursue higher level math classes. Her highly successful task force "Math & Science Think Tank" has, as one aim, the encouragement of minorities and women to elect and complete advanced classes in math and science. Ms. Mills is often asked to work with students whose needs have not been met in traditional classroom settings. She is also a Math and Science Presidential Award recipient.
