Biographical Information

Ted Nagata is the coordinator of the Vocational Technology Learning Center at Waialua High and Intermediate School in Waialua. In a concerted effort to prepare his students for career opportunities, Mr. Nagata has implemented a number of school-to-work and career preparation programs. In the Career Prep Program he adapted, Mr. Nagata helps his students select the "pathway of courses" that is best suited to their career choice. "Most students in the Program," he says, "enroll in a post-high school institution for further training. " Mr. Nagata created the Vocational Technology Learning Center in order to ensure that students and other members of his rural community develop technological proficiency. The Center, staffed by members of the business and industrial sector, provides students and other community members with access to state-of-the-art equipment and instruction.
