At Murphey Traditional Academy in Greensboro, kindergarten teacher Stephanie Pearson Lemon created and implemented an effective strategy for small-group instruction called Center, Seat & Seminars, comprised of the best elements of other small-group approaches she has observed. She uses music to help her students learn and retain a wide range of concepts, incorporating body movements to add kinesthetic value to her instruction. Mrs. Lemon has helped students from kindergarten through fifth grade improve their writing through age-appropriate strategies in the Write From the Beginning program. As a participant in the Guilford County Schools’ STARS: Pathways to Achievement Professional Development Series, Mrs. Lemon learns about brain-based learning, shares lesson ideas, plans instruction, and identifies strategies for sustaining and supporting growth. She is a member of various school committees and chair of the Nutrition Advisory Committee (NAC).
