Merilee Terry, gifted education teacher at Grandview Elementary School in Provo, has an enthusiasm for student-centered teaching that is contagious, and a classroom that her assistant superintendent calls a "beehive of fun, focused learning." She developed "PEAKS" (Preparing Excellent and Kreative Students for Success), a research-based Gifted and Talented curriculum that promotes both individualized and cooperative learning. As a mentor teacher for pre-service and new teachers, Mrs. Terry shares and models her expertise in multi-age looping, integrated curriculum and standards-based instruction. She is also a teacher leader in the area of curriculum development, and has served as a member of the district team responsible for designing and developing the district's standards and benchmarks.
