Social Studies teacher Lou Gallo brings history to life for students at West High School in Knoxville. As sponsor of the Youth in Government program, Mr. Gallo engages students in mock simulations of both federal and state governments as well as the United Nations, helping them to understand and appreciate the importance of political participation and multiculturalism. He played a key role in implementing Horizontal and Vertical Teaming in the Advanced Placement Humanities program, which have resulted in some of the highest AP scores in East Tennessee. On the district level, Mr. Gallo leads Knox County AP European and US history teachers on in-service days. He is also a College Board certified consultant and leads workshops throughout the United States that help teachers teach AP European and AP US history courses. During the summer, Mr. Gallo serves as a leader at the AP European History exam reading for ETS. He is the author of the Teacher Resource Guide that accompanies Jackson Spielvogel's Western Civilization and has contributed to several publications that assist European history teachers. He is also the author of a Course Planning and Pacing Guide for AP European History published on the AP Central website.
