Biographical Information

Jennifer K. Presson is a middle school lead teacher for the Suffolk Public Schools. Previously, she taught sixth-grade social studies and English at Forest Glen Middle School in Suffolk. Her active learning strategies included transforming her classroom into a tropical jungle during a study of the Amazon, and teaching her students to churn butter and bake johnnycakes while studying the Old West. Presson's methods dramatically increased the reading level and achievement scores of her students. Working with the Partners-in-Education program, Presson fostered cooperation between the school and local businesses, and participated in an after-school tutorial program in the juvenile court service unit. A National Board Certified teacher, Presson was selected as one of ten teachers to participate in curriculum development for the George C.
