During her 16 years of teaching, Janice Gehrman artfully blended her instructional techniques with personal encouragement, inspiring students to reach their potential at William Brown Elementary School, while teaching third grade. Mrs. Gehrman taught for 20 years in Chicago and transformed misbehaving, disinterested students into eager, motivated learners. Her emphasis on multicultural education ensured that new doors opened to all children. Ms. Gehrman devoted her spare time to after-school activities enabling those students from nearby housing projects to broaden their interest and abilities.
