An author and widely consulted expert on middle school education, Principal James Hieftje is known as a motivator of children at Fremont Middle School. A Cultural Day, Career Day, and a week-long forum for the arts are three of his signature programs. His school is also known for team teaching, social programming appropriate for the transient child, intramural activities, and an "exploratory hour" of instruction offering 24 different programs. Mr. Hieftje was a Michigan Association of Middle School Educators Principal of the Year whose advice is actively sought by institutions, universities and school districts nationwide.
