Biographical Information

George Beyer, 1995 Montana State Teacher of the Year, taught psychology to eleventh- and twelfth-graders at Flathead High School in Kalispell. The consistently superior performance demonstrated by the majority of his students in Advanced Placement Psychology Tests reflected the academic rigor of his classroom. Mr. Beyer believed, however, that insistence on academic excellence must occur in the context of moral and personal development. To this end, he always encouraged his students to assist in special education projects and to become involved in Literacy Volunteers, a program that was designed to serve immigrant communities. For Mr. Beyer, there was no greater reward than the significant number of his students who have graduated from his class to careers in psychology, teaching and special education.
