Biographical Information

When St. Charles Parish approved Gaylynn St. Pierre's proposal to combine her kindergarten and first-grade classes at Luling Elementary School in Luling, she became the first teacher in the parish to implement this multi-age concept. This has enabled her older, more experienced students to serve as academic and social role models for their younger classmates, allowing them to support each other while working at their individual grade levels. Mrs. St. Pierre was selected in 2001 to participate in the Louisiana Systematic Initiative Program (LaSIP), where she refined her teaching practices in math. She is chair of the Student Learning Committee, through which she implements the Student Learning Action Plan for grades K-5, and is a board member on the School Leadership Committee, which oversees schoolwide instruction and assessment.
