Edwin Boger is the principal of Center Public High School in Center. The school is located in a community that had traditionally relied on three local industries to provide positions to deserving high school graduates. Recent shifts in the economy have underscored the need for broader academic preparation, however, and Mr. Boger has dedicated himself to assuring it. "A varied curriculum had not been stressed," he says, "because it was the general assumption that jobs were out there waiting for the students." Under Mr. Boger's leadership, the school's curriculum offerings have doubled, and not only are students better prepared but they have also been instilled with more ambitious aspirations. Mr. Boger has also instituted an innovative teacher-evaluation process emphasizing professional development. This year, the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals named Mr. Boger the North Dakota Principal of the Year.
