Under principal Dr. Larry Stinn's guidance, Pleasant Hill Elementary School in Grantsville has been named a Blue Ribbon School by both the state of West Virginia and the U.S. Department of Education. A leader who believes in team planning, Dr. Stinn meets regularly with staff, parents and community representatives to discuss school improvement issues. He has also collaborated with local organizations such as VISTA and Community Resources, Inc., to create an after-school program in which high school students tutor younger children. Other programs established by Dr. Stinn include the School-Based Health Center, operated by personnel from the local community health center, and Heritage Day, in which students and parents present demonstrations of Appalachian culture and crafts.
