Biographical Information

Principal Regina Urueta has transformed Tigerville Elementary School in Tigerville into a joyful environment for successful learning. She frequently analyzes student achievement data with her teachers, working with them to plan developmentally appropriate instructional strategies. Known in the district as a "teacher's principal," Mrs. Urueta often teaches students directly—before school, in focused learning groups throughout the day, and in small groups during the summer. Observing a correlation between physical health and academic achievement, she piloted a fitness and nutrition curriculum at Tigerville called Zest Quest, which has since been replicated in schools across several states. Under Mrs. Urueta's leadership, the school has achieved adequate yearly progress (AYP) in every area for several years. Students are no longer scoring below the basic level on state assessments, and the percentage of students requiring academic planning and tutoring services has decreased. Each day, Mrs. Urueta posts a handwritten message in the cafeteria meant to inspire her students and staff. Her outstanding leadership is itself an inspiring daily message.

Personal Message

I love meeting educators who are forward thinking and always striving to improve themselves to help students meet mastery in all areas. The MFF/MEA/TAP networks are the most incredible groups in which to listen, learn, share, and grow - Thank you MFF for your contributions and bringing us all together!
