Fourth-grade teacher Jaunee Lynn Perry is data-driven in her instruction at Thompson Elementary School in Houston. Her students are engaged and successful in their learning. Mrs. Perry incorporates language arts and literacy in her instruction, and her students make impressive achievement gains. A trained Reading Recovery Teacher, Mrs. Perry meets regularly with fellow educators to problem solve and develop strategies to ensure student success. Mrs. Perry has been able to discontinue many students from the Reading Recovery program and has the highest rate of discontinuation in the district. An instructional leader with the district, Mrs. Perry is a mentor for other teachers and provides professional development workshops in language arts and writing. She also provides evening sessions for parents. Mrs. Perry was recently named Teacher of the Year for the school.
