Biographical Information

Dr. Ann Shaw is the Executive Director of Professional Development for the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching and previously served as a senior program specialist. Before her roles at NIET, Shaw worked as a regional master teacher with SC TAP. She is the co-author of a Web-based writing software used by elementary students worldwide. Previously, Dr. Shaw was an Instructional Coach at Tigerville Elementary School. She was among 20 teachers and 10 principals nationwide chosen to advise the U.S. Department of Education on the No Child Left Behind education initiative. As a former first-grade teacher at Summit Drive Elementary School in Greenville, she initiated a Balanced Literacy approach in her classroom, utilizing four different approaches to reading tailored to the individual student. Dr. Shaw was a Reading Recovery team teacher, and developed a Family Literacy Program for at-risk first graders and their parents. Ann has served as an Adjunct Professor at North Greenville University and Clemson University.
