Amy Ish teaches third grade and mentor classes at El Gabilan School in the Salinas City Elementary School District. Dedicated to curriculum reform, Ms. Ish has developed a course which incorporates literature, fine arts, and geography in the study of history. Ms. Ish elevates cultural diversity both by encouraging parent participation and capitalizing on the resources of local historical organizations. She is credited as an inspiration to students and fellow staff members alike; as a district administrator commented, "Ms. Ish is a person who has vision."
