Misty Ayres-Miranda Wins TN 2015-16 Milken Educator Award

A STAR IS BORN IN MUSIC CITY: Misty Ayres-Miranda, who chairs the English department at Nashville School of the Arts (NSA) in Tennessee, has dedicated her career to helping students learn to express themselves. In addition to teaching regular, honors and AP classes to students in grades 9-12, Ayres-Miranda created and directs the school's Literary Arts Conservatory, which gives students opportunities to perform, write and produce plays and films.

Ayres-Miranda's students appreciate their teacher's dedication. "She always puts her all into every class, helping us whenever we need it," a student said after Ayres-Miranda was surprised with Tennessee's 2015-16 Milken Educator Award. "Even if it's another subject or in our arts, she'll definitely come and help us at any time."

Likewise, Ayres-Miranda told the assembly that for the teachers at NSA, it's all about the students. "Honestly, and I'm not joking, we do this for you," she said. "The best part of my day [is] you guys."
